An Interview with London 2019 Finalist Amalie Bryde

To those who might not be familiar with you or your work, could you tell us a little more about you and your music?

My name is Amalie Bryde. I came to London 1 year ago growing up in Denmark. My melodies and vocal is very jazzy and my productions neo-soul. I like to write about my reflections on society and my personal experience of love. Previous releases are about social media, post-truth, women and lack of self-esteem. 

There's a greater purpose driving The Coffee Music Project. What does Project Waterfall mean to you?

It’s being part of a bigger web, something greater and bigger than me. Music is about gathering people and I really believe this is a wonderful way to raise money and awareness. 

When and why did you decide to venture into music?

I feel like I was born knowing the path. I never questioned it was the right thing for me to do. It has always been very natural for me to perform. The writing and production came with time and practice.  

What do you think are the biggest challenges facing emerging musicians?

The balance between music and business and how much you have to practice and sacrifice to get to where you want to be.

As a musician, what's the best piece of advice you have been given? 

Let the soup cook well. No reason to rush. Treat it like it is going to last.

How did you find writing your London song for this competition?

I was very thrilled about the challenge since I had the lyrics ready so it was just a matter of time to get the songwriting going. 

What should we expect from your set on 1st May?

I will perform 2 originals and bring my looper to surprise you with some challenging moves.
