London 2019 Round Up

Every year we are blown away by the standard of applicants and performances in The Coffee Music Project. London 2019 was our most diverse line up yet and proved no exception. Hundred of artists applied and the final 8 performed on Wednesday 1 May to a panel of 13 industry experts.

13 judges in total for 2019, with some brand new faces we were delighted to welcome on board including Elspeth Peirce of Radio X and Candid Magazine, and Jess Iszatt of BBC Introducing. Overall, the judging panel was made up of a broad spectrum of music industry professionals from top song writers and music editors, to sync agents and publishers offering our artists the best possible options for exposure and possible collaboration.

The night was opened and closed with fantastic performances from London 2018 Winner Daisy Chute, setting the winning standard for the judges and audience. Finalists performed for the final time their two original songs, including their London themed song that was written for the competition. Finalists performed in the running order; Okeam Briscoe, Melanie Baker, Joel Bailey, Meg Ella, Tenacity, Lemzi, Brooke Law, Richard James.

The audience cast their vote preparing for a tiebreaker, while the judges deliberated. The judge’s decision was unanimous, and the winner of The Coffee Music Project London 2019 was announced by the CEO, Jeffrey Young.

Particular praise was made of winner Richard James’s London song, referring to witnessing how the city had been detrimental to a close friend of his. The lyrics were particularly poignant and touched a chord with many of the audience and our judges.

Now officially crowned the winner of The Coffee Music Project London 2019, Richard James will be recording his winning song, and heading to New York City in October for The Coffee Music Project New York, and the New York Coffee Festival.
